Each year MQSC announces a different quilt making challenge. The challenge is usually issued in winter and members are invited to share their completed (or partially completed) quilts or quilted items at the Installation meeting in September.

MQSC Challenge QuiltsSome years a packet of fabrics is sold to each participant, and some of each of the fabrics must be used in the quilt. Other years, a pattern is selected, and members may select their own fabric. It is surprising how different the quilts look when made by different people. For the past few years, participants have included a moon in their projects, as a common element.

As with all our other programs, participation is optional. Traditionally, we keep our challenge quilt projects a surprise from each other. However, beginners can recruit help from the more experienced quilters. The real goal is that all have a pleasant experience and that each person stretches his or her creative abilities. The only prize awarded is the pleasure of participating and gaining knowledge.
